We are the Institute for Nonviolence Chicago. We work to make Chicago safe by rebuilding our communities since 2016. We work with community leaders, a team of full-time staff, and volunteers to prevent violence in our city, most especially gun violence. Additionally we offer programs for emotional support for victims of violence and education for those trying to walk a different path.
We service four main neighborhoods in Chicago: Austin, West Garfield Park, Brighton Park, and Back of the Yards. Just because these are the areas we service does not mean we neglect other neighborhoods. Our services are available and open to all regardless of where in Chicago you are from.

We service our communities through the strategic principles set out by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. We oppose violence with nonviolence and peace. Through these principles we have mediated and stopped potential gun violence.
Our impact has been felt across our communities. Since 2016, there has been a major decrease in shootings around these areas.
There has been a 72% decrease in shootings in the Austin neighborhood. A 48% decrease in shootings in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. And a 74% decrease in shootings in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.
But, we are not going to stop because we’ve had some success. We want to continue growing, supporting, and rebuilding Chicago. There is still more work to be done, more victims that need support. We’ve been around for 10 years, and we want to keep improving.
